Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"I’ve been coming to this restaurant on multiply occasions on every return trip to Sydney. This family business is filled with full or passion and love. The dishes are so authentic Vietnamese flavours - being Vietnamese myself, that is saying something. You can’t go wrong. The sauces are so fine and authentic. Try the crispy eggplant. For drinks, try the frozen lychee drink or the fresh young coconut drink."
"We had a most excellent and delicious dinner at Mother Yen. It is so authentic Vietnamese food. We ordered two dishes and both were so delicious."
"It’s such a joy to eat here, we love coming back to this family restaurant again and again. Everything on the menu is done so perfectly. Love the signature beef rib pho and five spice pork. My Vietnamese partner says it’s better than anything he’d find back home."
"The best Vietnamese in the inner-west!! I've been coming here for two years now and it keeps getting better. Always fresh and tasty salads, and all of their classics like pho and vermicelli salads are beautiful and each dish has a generous portion size. I had the Bánh cuốn, it was amazing. The rice wraps were soft and pillowy, and are great with a big dip of fish sauce. The steamed pork sausage is made in-house and has a balanced and meaty flavour. The pickled carrots are tangy and still have a nice crunch but are soft on their edges. And the salad was fresh and herbaceous. Yen sat down with me and explained to me all of the effort, time and care that goes into her Bánh cuốn and Chả lụa. How precise making the rice wraps are, how she started making her own sausage because it would be better, and how much she cares about her food and her customers. You really have to try mother yen and definitely the Bánh cuốn, you can really taste how much time and effort goes into their food!"
"Amazing food, enthusiastic staff, loved my time there. We got the chicken pho and pork chop with rice, but added the tomato rice and an additional egg as extra. Thanks!"
"If you are looking for an authentic vietnamese street food experience, look no further than. Our impromptu lunch sampling their beef pho, bun cha with vermicelli and pork chop rice meant that we need to be back for more. Food was tasty and full of flavour! A small and friendly family business!"
"I tried Mother Yen for the first time today and it honestly exceeded every expectation. Their bánh cuốn was the standout for me. Super delicate, silky rice rolls wrapped around a perfectly seasoned filling. It had that fresh, homemade feel, and the dipping fish sauce tied everything together so well especially with the salad and pork sausage. I also ordered the beef rib pho and it was amazing. The broth was incredibly rich and comforting without being heavy, and the beef rib was fall-off-the-bone tender. Mother Yen is definitely one of those places you want to bring people to, and keep coming back to yourself. Highly recommend!"
"The food was very nice, and photos are plastered on the wall of all the very visually appealing options leaves you salivating. I will return to try the pho with beef on the bone! Disappointed that bun bo hue (spicey lemongrass noodle soup is only made in winter) Noticed salt and pepper eggplant which I bet is a good vegetarian option? The aesthetic/atmosphere is very typical vietnamese with lots of Nick-knacks plastered everywhere. I ordered a tamarind drink, which I enjoy and is hard to find, but at $12.50 seems a bit steep! All in all, I will return to try other dishes but can not justify the tamarind drink, unfortunately. Returned and tried beef bone Pho it was excellent! Must try."
